About the Event
The Broadsword is the archetypical weapon of Scots and fantasy drama – think Highlander, Outlaw King, Outlander, Macbeth, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. If you’re interested in this sort of work then having broadsword skills could be a valuable asset.
No previous experience of stage combat is required but, if you're a beginner and have done the Introduction to Stage Combat Weekend Workshop on 2nd and 3rd October 2021, you'll already have covered some of the basics so will have a head start in learning those techniques and principles.
In addition to learning techniques for broadsword and a fight choreography, the course will also help you develop a professional knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods used in stage combat weapons work including fundamental safety techniques, effective staging, acting and performance skills.
The course is over 30 hours of training and on the final day you will have the opportunity to perform the fight choreography with a partner within a dramatic scene with dialogue for the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat Fight Performance Exam. The course is accredited for certification in Broadsword with the BASSC. This is an industry recognised qualification.
This course runs over three full weekends. You must attend all days to do the Fight Performance Exam.
The exam fee is included in the course price.
